A Bronx politician is taking an extra step to get his constituents to clean up after their pets.

Assemblyman Marcos Crespo went door to door around the 85th District with a group of student volunteers to ask permission to put up front yard signs reminding people to scoop the poop and leash their dogs.

It's all part of a quality-of-life initiative called "Take pride in where you reside." Crespo says dog feces and dirty streets are some of the top complaints that come into his office.

Due to budget cuts, the city stopped putting up signs like the ones Crespo went around with Wednesday.

Dog feces on sidewalks was outlawed back in 1978. Pet owners who are caught breaking the law face a fine of $250.
