Authorities say two people have been charged in a 2022 drug-related shooting in which a baby was shot in the face.
The NYPD and FBI say Ahmed Altorei and Samuel Bautista were arrested and charged with distributing narcotics and carrying firearms in connection to a trafficking operation based on Grand Concourse and East 198th Street.
Police say Altorei and Bautista were shooting at a rival drug dealer, when those shots entered a car where the 11-month-old child and her mother were. Altorei and Bautista had been selling drugs at the intersection of Valentine Avenue and East 198th Street on Jan. 19, 2022, according to authorities.
The baby survived, but authorities say the physical and emotional trauma her and her family have to deal with will never go away.
Surveillance video from the time of the shooting shows the incident unfold at the intersection. Police say the pair will be charged with narcotics conspiracy, using or carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime, and possessing ammunition after a felony conviction.
This arrest comes after a search that took nearly two years to complete. The 11-month-old baby survived the shooting.
Both suspects face at least 30 years in prison if convicted but could spend the rest of their lives incarcerated.
