Police say a 31-year-old man has now been charged in connection to assaulting an off-duty officer in the Upper West Side on March 28.
According to the NYPD, the 52-year-old off duty officer was walking his dog near East 90th Street and 1st Avenue when he saw Sherred Johnson, 31, on a green motorcycle. The off-duty officer asked Johnson to slow down for safety and that's when Johnson got off the motorcycle and started to punch the off-duty officer multiple times in the face, causing him to fall to the ground and break his ankle.
After the off-duty officer fell to the ground, Johnson hit him a few more times in the face and body with his hands before taking off, police say.
Johnson now faces an assault charge. The off-duty officer was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
