Law enforcement officials say an SUV crashed into a construction work zone in Brownsville on Monday.
Workers told News 12 that it was a miracle that no one was seriously hurt in the crash. They say an SUV was going down Rockaway Avenue just before 9 a.m. when the driver veered off of the road into the barricade of the construction site.
Surveillance video caught a portion of the crash, showing the white SUV cross the intersection of Rockaway Avenue and East New York Avenue before crashing through the construction site fence.
Workers can be seen on camera jumping out of the way of the vehicle. The car then plummeted down to the bottom of a large excavation hole on the construction site.
Officials say that one person has been taken to a hospital with minor injuries, and that the car has been removed from the excavation hole.
The Department of Buildings says that the structure being built at the site was not damaged as a result of the SUV crash.
