Jashyah Moore, a 14-year-old girl who went missing in East Orange last month, was found safe Thursday night in New York City, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
According to police, Moore was found by a good Samaritan who recognized her near 111th Street and Lenox Avenue.
News 12 has learned she was in New Jersey for a few of the 29 days she was missing, then eventually made her way to a shelter in Brooklyn, and was uptown, they say, to meet someone she knew. It is not sure who at this point just yet.
Police say Jashyah is with them and child services getting the care she needs. They will meet with her mother today to discuss what’s next.
Moore went missing on Oct. 14 after she was last seen at Poppie's Deli on Central Avenue.
Her disappearance sparked national attention and a large effort from the community to find her.
Officials say the girl is safe in New Jersey, and it was a collaborative effort between all agencies, along with state police, the media, social media and the general public.
