A man suffered serious injuries to his face when he was stabbed while waiting for the subway in Mott Haven early Monday.

The 34-year-old victim told authorities he was waiting on the platform for the No. 6 train when a man approached him and demanded that he empty his pockets. Police say the man started stabbing the victim and asking for money in a seemingly random attack in the Cypress Avenue subway station at 3 a.m.

The victim claims he had no idea who his attacker was.

News 12 is told the suspect got away with a cellphone.

The NYPD says there have been more than 200 crimes reported involving transit in January.
"It's scary but you know, you got to be on point, always got to watch your back," says one rider.

Authorities have released surveillance video and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers.
