Aviation students at Farmingdale State College, SUNY are getting extra money to help pay flight costs and other program expenses.

Each student enrolled in the college's Aeronautical Science pilot program will receive a $2,000 scholarship.

"We want to make sure that fees and funding are not a barrier for students. We want to close the financial gap," explains state Assemblyman Clyde Vanel.

The scholarships are part of a $250,000 grant by the state assemblyman.

"It benefits me, students can focus more on their studies," says freshman Santhi Karras.

Officials are hoping to provide the scholarships every year to students in the pilot program.
