A huge backlog in background checks for day care workers has mostly been cleared – thanks to a new digital system put in place by the city that makes those checks faster.
City Council members have proposed a bill to require the city to get those checks done in a two-week time frame. Following the death of 1-year-old Nicholas Dominici at a Kingsbridge day care, city officials are now warning that a faster checks process could be a risky move.
Members of the City Council say they want the health and education departments to communicate better in order to expedite the checks process further.
