A Bronx middle school’s gym renovation proved to be a slam dunk for students, as they were joined by professional basketball player and actor Brawley Chisholm.
This is the first time since M.S. 113 Richard R. Green campus opened decades ago that the gym has replaced the backboards.
Students from North Bronx Empowerment and Leaders of Tomorrow were full of energy to celebrate the new addition.
Both schools operate out of the M.S. 113 building, which secured a grant to make the update to their gym from the City Council years ago.
The COVID-19 pandemic put a halt on a proper ribbon-cutting when the renovations were done, but middle schoolers got to celebrate Friday alongside a professional athlete who was happy to talk about education with the students.
“I wanted to get down to their eye level and have a great conversation, so they can believe in themselves,” said Chisholm.
