Sunday marks three years since Lesandro “Junior” Guzman Feliz was murdered at a Bronx bodega.
On Saturday, former New York Yankees pitcher C.C. Sabathia stood next to Junior’s mother Leandra Feliz as a newly renovated baseball field was introduced in the teen’s memory.
The field is one that Junior once played on, and his mother hopes that it will keep inner city children out of trouble.
Her 15-year-old son became the victim of gang violence when he was murdered in June 2018 by a group of gang members who mistook him as a member of a rival gang.
Five gang members were convicted of first-degree murder in 2020 and the trial for several others is continuing.
There will be a Mass held in his memory Sunday and other ceremonies will take place early in the week.
