A Belmont pharmacy received a highly distinguished award from New York state for decades of hard work and dedication to their community.
In the age of CVS, Rite Aid and even online pharmacies, Mount Carmel Pharmacy continues to do what it can for its neighbors. The Paganelli family has run the pharmacy since 1964.
“We are here seven days a week and always here for anybody who presents us with a need,” says co-owner Armand Paganelli.
All their dedication has earned them the New York State Senate Empire Award, which is given to businesses that show exemplary service to their customers and community. State Sen. Gustavo Rivera presented them the award Monday afternoon.
The Paganelli family is already looking to the future, which includes a new facility. The pharmacy's new community wellness center that's set to provide health screenings, such as blood pressure check-ups and testing for diseases.
“The reach from this little corner is very broad. We're excited to kick this off and, again, just continue to bring value to the people that we serve in this community,” says Roger Paganelli.
So far, there's no word on what their next idea is, but they're sounding hopeful.
"We hope to be here for many, many years serving our community because it is what we are based on,” says Armand Paganelli.
The wellness center is just outside the pharmacy on East 187th Street.
