A blind student at Manhattan College says he has a passion for the written word.
John Evans, 21, has already written dozens of books and poems. He says about half of them have been published in print.
Despite the large body of work, Evans says it takes him much longer to write compared to other authors.
Evans uses a Braille laptop to write his stories, the same laptop that kept his words flowing after a surgery that removed a tumor near his eyes.
"With a serious tumor, you realize you want to make every moment count," says Evans.
Evans says the operation brought back shadows and faint images that were not visible before. Still, he says his impairment hasn't held him back.
The Manhattan College junior hopes his written works will help inspire others and change their perception of people with disabilities.
Evans has a book signing scheduled this weekend and says he hopes to make a career out of writing.
