A Bronx classroom is getting ready to open thanks to a sizeable donation.
School officials are just weeks away from opening the National Health Wellness and Learning Center at P.S. 55.
Teacher Stephen Ritz was a top-10 finalist for the Global Teacher prize through the Varkey Foundation, receiving $25,000 to open the center.
With the money, the school was able to purchase 15 tower gardens.
"We're going to be teaching the fine art of cooking and culinary and living wage job skills and health sanitation," Ritz says. "Everything kids need to have an impact, that will not only impact their school performance, but their personal health."
