The 161st Business Improvement District surveyed Bronx residents to hear their feelings about a proposed soccer stadium that would be built in the parking lot on River Avenue and East 153rd Street.
The project has been in the making for years, since the New York City Football Club kicked off nearly seven years ago.
The club has been playing at Yankee Stadium ever since. Stakeholders approached the city about building a soccer stadium right next to the Terminal Market.
The 161st Business Improvement District surveyed 200 local residents this summer and found that 56% of residents would like to see the stadium built, but that number is down from the 67% who were in favor at the beginning of the pandemic.
The survey also showed that six out of 10 residents would be interested in purchasing stock in the stadium if they were at a reduced cost.
As for the next steps, the 161st BID plans to present these findings to local elected officials, so the proposed soccer stadium can be one step closer to reality.
