Between now and 2 a.m., we could see strong storms firing up. The smallest little cell can easily become a severe thunderstorm when you have the amount of heat and humidity we do.

Spotty thundershowers are peppering the area, but there is still a chance that your neighborhood could remain dry.

Better rain and storm chances arrive after 10 p.m. as a frontal system works its way over to us, bringing additional storm chances.

Any of the storms that we do see could have embedded downpours, areas of flash flooding, lightning, small hail, and a tornado is possible. Damaging wind is the primary concern and could result in downed tree limbs and trees, as well as power outages.

The forecast is a rinse-and-repeat one for tomorrow. Friday will bring another day of intense, suffocating heat and humidity, with afternoon and evening shower and storm chances.

Wind will be the main problem, but all of the same factors are at play with Friday's potentially severe storm: Wind, hail, rain, lightning, and flooding. This wind threat is more severe for Friday.

Friday is not just hot, not just under a heat advisory, but also has the potential to break records for how hot! The previous record for Central Park is 93 degrees. We are forecasting the low to mid-90s - so there is the potential to see that record shattered!

The one saving grace of the forecast is that Saturday is dry and less humid! There could be showers and storms late Sunday.

A NOTE ABOUT THE DROUGHT:

Our drought has worsened across the city, with areas now in severe drought. This could be problematic for brush fires down the road.
