Mayor Bloomberg (R-NY) unveiled several new bills Monday aimed at ending gun violence in the Bronx and city.
The pieces of legislation introduced deal with a number of gun issues. One bill looks to ban color kits that are being used to paint real guns and make them appear to be toys. Another is aimed at creating a gun offender registry that would include hundreds convicted of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. Bloomberg also wants to limit all handgun purchases to one every three months. He says there is no reason why any law abiding citizen needs to buy more than four handguns a year.
Despite early support from City Council leaders, the bills are still in their infancy. They are expected to be formally introduced to the full council on June 13.
