A toddler was found unconscious and unresponsive near Ferry Point Park in The Bronx, according to sources close to the investigation.
They say he was taken out of the water and brought to College Point, Queens at NYPD Harbor George.
The medical examiner is working to determine the cause of death, and News 12 is awaiting confirmation on whether the body belongs to Montrell Williams, a 2-year-old from The Bronx who went missing on May 10.
The NYPD told the media: "We are looking into the initial reports to the police department of the missing child and how those were handled but … the NYPD takes any case of a missing person very seriously, and we are looking into how the initial report from the family was handled."

News 12 has also learned the father of Montrell Williams is currently being held at Rikers under a family warrant.
Police sources say they have video evidence of the father throwing something into the Bronx River. This is where police have been searching since the start of the week.
Williams' relatives say his father told his mother that he threw Montrell into the Bronx River.
Montrell's mom told News 12 over email that she reported to police that the child went missing on May 10, but that police told her they could not get involved if the child was with his father and she had to go through family court.
On May 30, a custodial interference report was made. On Monday, the NYPD began searching the Bronx River for the missing boy.
Sources close to the investigation say there is a history of domestic violence.
