A Bronx family is suing the city after their mother's body was accidentally sent off for medical school research.
Aura Balles-Teros passed away at a local nursing home earlier this month. Her body was supposed to be held in the Jacobi Medical Center morgue while funeral arrangements were made, but she was instead sent to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine for dissection.
Officials say the body was returned to the family after 36 hours and before any teaching activities took place, but her son says the ordeal still changed his mother's appearance.
The medical examiner has apologized for the mistake.
