A Long Island man was found dead Monday by Newport, Rhode Island authorities inside a vehicle that was covered in snow.

According to police, officers found “Joseph Boutros, a 21-year-old Salve Regina University student unconscious inside a vehicle who was charging his cellphone. This vehicle was covered in snow and not running.”

Boutros was pronounced dead at the Newport Hospital Emergency Room from carbon monoxide poisoning.

“This tragic incident was accidental and a reminder to be vigilant to keep exhaust pipes clear of snow and debris when vehicles are idling,” police said in a news release.

News 12 confirmed that Boutros was a Connetquot School District alumnus, adding that he was “so nice and polite.”

A Salve Athletics football roster shows Boutros was from Bohemia.
