Some students and staff at Cesar Batalla School in Bridgeport said they were struggling with "very hot temperatures" inside the school Wednesday, which they said - according to an interior school thermostat - reached 90 degrees.
"Oh, it's terrible-- and I get light-headed and can't pay attention in class" said eighth-grader Emily Urias, whose family gave her permission to comment.
Parent Francisco Ortiz said he was also frustrated with the situation.
"Kids can learn if they're not comfortable," Ortiz said.
The superintendent's office pointed out that no other district in the state canceled school Wednesday as a result of hot weather.
It issued the following statement:
"Bridgeport Public Schools is aware of concerns regarding the extreme heat conditions in several school buildings. The district continues to closely monitor daily weather conditions while working with school leaders to utilize cooler spaces, adjust classroom locations when appropriate, and support the comfort and well-being of students and staff throughout the remainder of the school year.
It wasn't clear if the hot temperatures inside the school resulted from a problem with the building's AC.
