Broadway in the Boros closed out its citywide summer tour Friday in Soundview Park.
The free citywide Broadway performances made stops in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and finally in the Bronx.
The last stop included performances by real cast members of “Kinky Boots” and “SpongeBob Squarepants.”
Kai Falkenberg, of the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment, explained the goal of Broadway in the Boros.
"Some people are not able to attend Broadway and so what we want to do is bring Broadway to New Yorkers wherever they may be," Falkenberg said.
State Sen. Luis Sepulveda says he hopes the show will impact children well beyond the performance.
"Unfortunately children of color in our communities -- this is not something that is readily available to them and we want to make sure that it is," Sepulveda said. "So this opens up this horizon and their eyes the way it did for me -- so that they can start pursuing these types of careers.”
Even though Friday was the last stop of the citywide tour, Broadway in the Boros will be back in the Bronx next summer.
