A Bronx-born bachata singer is gaining popularity for his smooth guitar playing and heartfelt lyrics.
Chavi Leons, 19, grew up listening to bachata in his childhood home in Mott Haven.
"This is the music that my family was listening to, every Sunday morning you would wake up and my mom is making food and you just hear the music blasting,” he says.
Since then, Leons has taken his Dominican roots to the next level by writing his own bachata music and gaining a following on social media.
Leons says he first discovered his love for singing when he was 5 years old. He says his inspiration not only comes from friends and family, but also his fans.
Leons has a new single coming out in the near future, and he hopes his music continues to reach further.
