The Bronx borough president's office hosted its 13th annual DiVA spa day in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event is designed to create an environment for domestic violence victims and survivors that promotes empowerment and encouragement.
"We know so many of our clients are going through an incredibly difficult journey on their pathway to healing and restoration and they are at a critical movement in their lives, and we want to make sure they know they're not alone," says Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson.
Those who showed up to the event received manicures, facials, massages, haircuts and makeovers. The services were provided by licensed practitioners that closed their businesses down for the day to offer their free services. One participant says she loves the use of cosmetology for this event because not only does it boost confidence, but it is a practice that can turn into a career.
Beautification wasn't the only thing that was provided - there were also plenty of organizations there that offered support and services for domestic violence victims.
