Bronx and city public schools will reportedly be inspected and rated under a new program launched by the Bloomberg administration.

According to a New York Post report, inspectors will observe each public school for two to three days. Each school will then be given a rating based on criteria such as classroom instruction, data analysis and building safety. The schools chancellor says the city has already successfully tried a similar pilot program where 100 schools were rated.

The Post reports an outside firm made up of former supervisors and teachers will conduct the inspections. The Department of Education is expected to award the contract to one or more bidders before the start of the school year. The school inspections would then be phased in over eight months. After each inspection and rating, officials will offer constructive criticism to each school.
