A Bronx clergyman was recently honored by Trinity Church for his work with immigrants.
Father Diego Delgado has lobbied for immigrants' rights in the Bronx and around the nation. When Father Delgado arrived at the Church of the Mediator, he created various programs to help illegal immigrants with their status. He has also added a Sunday service in Spanish. Father Delgado says all immigrants, legal or illegal, are welcome in his church.
Trinity Church officials say they chose Father Delgado as one of their 2006 fellows because of his advocating for immigrants. Each of the fellows receives $20,000. Part of the money will go to the Church of the Mediator. The other part of the money will sponsor Father Delgado on a six-week sabbatical around the world.
