A new initiative from New York City’s Health Department will provide space for people with serious mental illnesses to pursue the services they need.

The DOH says clubhouses reduce hospitalization and criminalization while helping to improve the well-being of patients.

The city celebrated the opening of its first clubhouse Thursday in Brooklyn.

A temporary location was recently opened in The Bronx while work continues on the permanent one.
