The Rain Gardens Action in Neighborhoods Coalition came together on Tuesday afternoon in Starlight Park to help fight climate change by cleaning up rain gardens.
The coalition includes The Bronx River Alliance, The Gowanus Canal Conservancy, The Guardians of Flushing Bay, the Newtown Creek Alliance and the HOPE program. Community members weeded, mulched and cleaned up trash to help preserve areas of green infrastructure.
The coalition was founded to help communities that are impacted by sewer overflow, flooding, extreme heat and more.
The RAIN Coalition's next event will be at the Gowanus Canal Watershed in Brooklyn toward the end of September. The Bronx River Alliance holds gardening days every Tuesday at Starlight Park.
