Many Bronx residents may have their taxes prepared by someone else this season. The Department of Consumer Affairs is urging all consumers to know their rights when it comes to tax preparation.
According to the Department of Consumer Affairs, most tax preparers are following the laws this season. However, they are offering Bronx consumers some tips to protect themselves and their money. People should avoid shops or preparers that are only open during tax season. They should also avoid a high-interest refund loan product. All tax preparers should also have a free consumer bill of rights guide regarding tax preparation for all consumers.
Consumer affairs officials are also reminding residents about the earned income tax credit. Families that make less than $37,000 a year may qualify for the credit. Families that quality may be eligible for up $6,000 refunds.
