The Bronx District Attorney kicked off Domestic Violence Awareness month in Grand Concourse Saturday with a “walk-on” meant to celebrate survivors.

Bronx D.A. Darcel Clark partnered with the mayor's office to fight for the end of domestic and gender-based violence. Officials say the Bronx suffers higher rates of domestic violence than anywhere else in New York City.

This past week, three people lost their lives to domestic violence. In one case, police say Enilies Calix was fatally stabbed by her boyfriend, Ernesto Valerio, inside a Claremont shelter.

Noelia Mateo died after police say her estranged husband, Victor mateo, ran her over and stabbed her with a machete.

As News 12 reported, police say a man was shot and killed just Friday night on a Grand Concourse subway platform after getting into an argument with the mother of his son. She was with another man at the time, who pulled out a gun, according to officials.

Clark says authorities were not aware of a history of domestic violence in at least two of those cases, which is why she's encouraging families and friends of victims to come forward.
