The Bronx received an ?F? on the American Lung Association?s latest air quality report card this week.

In the south Bronx, big rigs are prevalent throughout the area. According to the report, that is partly the cause of ash, soot, diesel exhaust and chemicals floating in the air.

?The high levels of truck traffic that rumbles through the borough, as well as the pollution that drifts from the Midwest and also the high density of residences heated by very dirty oil,? says ALA CEO Louise Vetter about the causes of the pollution.

Many residents say as a result of the poor air quality, they or someone they know has developed asthma.

Meanwhile, Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he has plans to cut air pollution in the city by the year 2030.
