Catwalk connoisseurs and creatives alike were in for a special fashion show Saturday during Bronx Fashion Week's premiere of Decades of Dreams in Baychester.
Flora Montes has had Bronx Fashion Week in the works for over 10 years. She showcased her creativity and her crew of diverse models at the Bay Plaza Mall.
"Fashion is more than fabric, that's a fact," Montes said. "It's more than just a garment you know, you feel good about your self, I feel good about myself, I feel good about seeing them."
Each model strutted down the catwalk with a confidence that couldn't be brought.
"Fashion is a universal language. It speaks to many and brings people together," said model Sergio Delavicci. "This is good for the Bronx, it's good for the community, it's definitely good for the fashion community."
Montes next steps includes opening what would be the first fashion school in the Bronx – a safe haven for those who seek to express themselves in their own unique way.
"We're really a great borough and we have a lot to offer," said Aelsey Phoenix, Bronx Fashion Week Runway Coordinator. "For people that's into fashion and photography, designing, they get to see the Bronx fashion week show and see what it has to offer."
Montes told News 12 she hopes that those involved in her organization not only seek to be models but "to build their lives and make their own legacies" much like she plans to.
