Tuesday marks Certified Nurse's Day, and News 12 is highlighting a health care hero making a difference here in the Bronx.
Fanny Pierre has spent the last decade in the halls of the children’s hospital and Montefiore, putting the lives of others first. This started much earlier, when her high school guidance counselor encouraged her to join a summer program at Lehman College.
“I was able to shadow nurses in the hospital and that’s where I got to see what nurses actually did,” said Pierre, who says the medical field has always called to her.
Pierre credits her parents for her success, saying they always encouraged her to follow her dreams. Parents who are in the children’s hospital say they can feel Pierre’s passion in her work.
"Fanny has been phenomenal at taking care of our family through this difficult time. And my son, she has help us navigate. You can tell that she loves what she does. She's a very caring,” said parent Maria Jalpay.
