Residents in one Bronx community blame unsafe construction and the recent rainfall for the collapse of a vacant home onto a community garden Wednesday.
Neighbors say the walls and roof of the Bristow Avenue home came crashing down early in the morning and fell into a common garden. Although there were no injuries, a nearby school was scheduled to send students to the garden to plant flowers on their last day of school. Luckily, the accident happened before the students arrived. Residents say the property, which was being converted to a two-family home from a one-family home, looked unstable throughout construction.
The Department of Buildings has issued a stop work order for the site and the owner was cited for not protecting the adjacent property.
