The Bronx's homicide rate is soaring this year, in part due to an uptick in domestic violence.
Homicides are up more than 80 percent so far this year -- a year after the city finished with a record low of 292 homicides.
As first reported by AM New York, there were 21 homicides in the Bronx at this point last year. This year, there have been 38.
And police say deaths linked to domestic violence have risen from three to eight in that same span.
The Bronx District Attorney's Office tells News 12 that four of those cases this year have been linked to intimate partners, and four involve other people in the household. Three of the victims were males.
Furthermore, the DA's office says that the homicides are happening at homes with no previous reports of domestic violence -- making them unpredictable.
Authorities say people should report domestic violence immediately so police can begin tracking homes where it takes place.
In 2016, there were 16 intimate-partner homicides for the entire year.
