Bronx officials announced their support for Mayor Bloomberg?s PlaNYC 2030 on the ?green roof? of the Bronx Supreme Court Friday.
PlaNYC 2030 encompasses over 100 initiatives designed to make New York the best big city in America. They include better parks, cleaner transportation and renewable energy.
Assemblywoman Naomi Rivera (D-Bronx) said she was skeptical about the plan, but realizes the environmental changes are necessary in saving the health of Bronx residents.
?We know that the Bronx has the highest rate of asthma and it?s not just our kids that are suffering, it?s our seniors,? Rivera said.
Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr. stands by PlaNYC as well. Officials said the Bronx will benefit from the additional parks, trees and improved public transportation the plan has to offer.
Many advocacy groups joined the Bronx leaders to pat the city on the back for stepping up and caring for the environment. Officials are working to educate residents about the plan and believe they will also be in favor of it.
