One of the men accused of beating an off-duty police officer in a Bronx White Castle was arraigned Monday. Edwin Rivera is accused of beating police officer Eric Hernandez in January before a fellow officer shot and killed him in the parking lot of the fast food restaurant. A grand jury charged Rivera with gang assault in the first degree. The indictment alleges that Rivera caused serious physical injury to Hernandez. The judge set bail for $50,000, which Rivera was unable to pay. He remains in custody. If Rivera is found guilty, officials say he could face up to 25 years in jail. He is due back in court on May 5 for a bail hearing.
