Bronx man charged in 2 fatal shootings faces judge for the first time

The Bronx man accused of carrying out two fatal shootings - one in the Bronx and the other in Brooklyn - faced a judge for the first time on Sunday, the Bronx District Attorney's Office says.
Jesus Acosta, 31, was arraigned on a slew of charges for his alleged crimes in the Bronx. The criminal complaint reveals that Acosta allegedly robbed 33-year-old Tayvvon Schuler as he lay wounded and helpless on the deli floor. Schuler later died from his injuries.
Acosta is also accused of firing at two others during the robbery inside 143 East 149th St. last week. According to the criminal complaint, he then went behind the deli counter and stole cash from the register.
Prosecutors say he now faces first- and second-degree murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, two counts of robbery and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
The crime happened just three days after Acosta allegedly shot and killed 44-year-old M.D. Yousef and wounded a second employee inside American Best Wings and Pizza in Brooklyn.
A weeklong manhunt unfolded after detectives linked Acosta to both crimes. It ended on Saturday after an anonymous tip led the NYPD to Acosta.
Acosta allegedly attempted to evade officers and was carrying a loaded firearm at the time of his arrest, according to the criminal complaint.
He was eventually taken into custody around 10:40 a.m. inside a park near Watson and Morrison avenues. Officers walked him out of the 43rd Precinct later that day.
Acosta racked up additional charges on Saturday, including two additional counts of criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.
He has not faced a judge for the Brooklyn shooting as of Sunday night.
