A Bronx mother is working to stop gun violence in Soundview after her son was shot in the leg at a local park.
Isaiah Osbourne, 12, was shot while playing basketball in April at Story Playground. In response, his mother, Tricia Coal, began her mission Saturday to stop gun violence with the first of several planned community day events.
The purpose of the events are to bring residents together against gun violence. Local community boards, politicians and activists are expected to be part of the efforts to take back places like the park and make them safer for children.
The gathering also included self-defense classes, food, games and music.
Since the incident, Coal has secured five cameras for the park in an attempt to make it safer.
