A mother in the Throgs Neck Houses says her apartment has been waiting for years to receive repairs.
Eva De La Cruz says that mold and water damage have affected every part of life for her and her family – she’s currently receiving breast cancer treatment and says her two kids are suffering from health problems, including asthma.
De La Cruz tells News 12 that the condition of the home is making her have to keep her kids away for their own health and safety. She says the New York City Housing Authority came to assess the damage but that there’s been no fix yet.
“They came like they always do, take pictures, and say they'll return, someone else is coming, someone else is coming,” said De La Cruz. “This is what I've been living with, I can't even tell you for how long.”
News 12 reached out to NYCHA for a statement and received the following.
"NYCHA is reaching out to the resident and will be visiting the apartment as soon as possible to assess conditions. We will address any abatement and necessary repairs to ensure the resident is satisfied."
