A multiple sclerosis center in Mount Hope is being recognized for its work in the community.

BronxCare Health System's MS Center is the only national MS comprehensive center in the borough, according to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The center helps what it calls a medically underserved population maintain healthy and independent lives. The designation highlights health care centers that offer individualized, patient-centered services.

Multiple sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system that impacts the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves.

Doctors say the recognition only further validates their dedication to their 500 patients.
