The Bronx Museum of the Arts announced a $33 million plan to reconstruct its lobby and entrance.
The main entrance will be moved from the north building to the south building at the Grand Concourse and East 165th Street. Organizers say they hope the redesign will provide more visibility and attract more visitors.
Marvel, an architecture company based in Manhattan, helped create the redesign and break ground on the beginning of the reconstruction on Wednesday.
The museum will also boast a new lobby with a seating area, gathering space and large art displays facing the street to catch people’s attention.
Organizers say the idea is to make the museum a local place where people can connect. They say it will remain open and free while under construction.
