Bronx native and Big Apple Circus Ringmaster Storm Marrero participated in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade on Thursday.
She is the first Afro-Latina ringmaster for the circus, and this was her first performance since knee surgery and the pandemic lockdown.
"This is my first real time coming back and it feels great to be back, it feels great to have some type of normalcy," Marrero said. "It's a New York tradition, but it is a tradition that is seen around the world."
"I actually met her earlier because I took my family to see the Big Apple Circus and Storm is a phenomenal performer," said Dr. Shawn Anthony, of Mount Sinai Health System. "She came to the office and she had a very bad injury to her knee, and she had a torn meniscus," he explained.
