A born-and-raised Bronx man's viral social media chopped cheese truck opened a new storefront Friday called "Bodega City."
A line of people formed in front of the store minutes before the grand opening.
Manny Russell was in line and came from Long Island to get his hands on a chopped cheese sandwich.
"I want to be the first customer, so I came early," said Manny Russell, of East Meadow on Long Island.
Jeremy Batista started his viral "Bodega Truck" in 2021. It closed in March of this year for private events.
Friday, he opened a storefront in Ogden Market with the same menu favorites.
"You could get a chopped cheese anywhere in New York. There was no real one spot where you could be like, no, that place is known for it. So I wanted to create that," said Jeremy Batista, owner of Bodega City.
With the storefront, he's bringing back nostalgic candy and quarter waters, saying the idea stems from when he was a kid.
"My mother owned a bodega, so I grew up in one. When I was younger, I would go every day after school and my favorite thing to eat was chop cheese," said Batista.
