A Bronx-based nonprofit held its sixth annual "Dance is Healing" winter workshop in Williamsbridge on Thursday.
Young Bronx kids came together at the Mind-Builders Creative Arts Center, turning the dance studio into a playground of possibility.
Maleek Washington taught the kids a free modern dance class for the workshop, which is backed by the Paige Fraser foundation - a nonprofit organization creating spaces for young artists to learn from some of the best in the community.
“I think it’s really amazing for young kids to find access in their creativity through physicality,” said Washington.
Paige Fraser-Hoffman, chief artistic officer of the Paige Fraser Foundation, suffered from scoliosis at age 13 – but that only inspired her to keep her feet moving. Now, she serves as an inspiration to young children looking to dance.
