The Bronx People’s Federal Credit Union, elected officials and community members gathered in Longwood for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the center's opening.
The membership-based center provides no fee checking accounts, credit building loans and a wide variety of financial literacy services and tools to help families and small businesses.
“I'm so excited that we're going to have this resource in the 85th District because financial literacy and economic empowerment are so important. People deserve to have banking resources that are fair. We deserve economic justice,” said Emérita Torres, Assembly member for the 85th District.
“This is such an exciting day. It's built on collaboration. We think it's an innovative investment here that we've made,” said Marissa Weidner, chief corporate responsibility officer at Webster Bank, a lead sponsor of the union.
The Bronx People’s Federal Credit Union is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and there’s 24-hour ATM access for deposit and withdrawal.
