A playground in the Bronx was renamed in honor of an EMT who was killed in the line of duty four years ago.
Loved ones and members of the FDNY gathered to celebrate the renaming of Blackrock Playground on Watson Avenue to FDNY-EMT Yadira Arroyo Playground.
The park is nearby Station 26, where Arroyo served. It is also a block away from where she lost her life in March 2017.
Jose Gonzalez allegedly stole her ambulance vehicle and ran her over while he was high on drugs. He was charged with murder, manslaughter and robbery.
There's a plaque with Arroyo's name at the park where people can stop and learn more about who she was.
Arroyo's loved ones described her as a leader, mentor and a dedicated mother.
The park was renovated in 2019 with the help of students from P.S. 119.
