A "rain forest" in the middle of a Bronx NYCHA housing complex may seem out of place, but for local residents, it is an oasis away from the borough's concrete jungle.
The garden, located at 2595 Third Ave., was started by Marta Diaz 25 years ago. After her passing, her children have taken it upon themselves to keep the garden flourishing.
"We're doing this for her, because she really did want us to keep it alive for the community," said her son Benny Diaz.
The Diaz family has won numerous awards for the green space, trumping gardeners from every other borough in the city.
