The borough's deep freeze isn't going anywhere soon, prompting residents to bundle up and face the cold head on.
News 12 spoke with representatives from the Office of Emergency Management who had some tips for staying safe in the bitter conditions.
They say that although alcohol may make you feel warmer, it actually causes your body to lose heat faster. They also say if your skin turns red or extremely pale, you may have frostbite and are urged to call 911 right away.
They urged residents to check on their neighbors to make sure they are safe.
Officials say tenants should reach out to building managers if heat or hot water isn't working. If the problem isn't fixed, they can also call 311.
