Some Bronx residents are calling on the city’s Parks Department to create a dog run in Crotona Park.
Patrick Willis, of Community Board 3, says has been trying to get a dog run in the park for years for his dog, Cyrus.
He has proposed that a vacant soccer field on the northeast side of the park could be repurposed into a dog run at a low cost.
He says other members of the community are all on board with the plan and has submitted a petition to the Parks Department, but they've been experiencing pushback.
A spokesperson from the Parks Department says although it's supportive of the creation of a dog run in Crotona Park, it requires a formal proposal from the community and needs to secure necessary funding.
Willis said he and others are willing to put in their own time into maintaining the dog park.
For now, dog owners can only let their dogs off leash after sunset - which is only about an hour before the park closes at 10 p.m.
