A yearslong battle to bring a casino to Throgs Neck continues.

News 12 spoke with Bally's senior vice president of corporate development Christopher Jewett about the local benefits of the project.

"People are already gambling, so why not keep the tax dollars local?," said Jewett.

The project is set to create 3,500 jobs within the casino.

Executives close to the project said the economic impact could be a big benefit to the borough.

Residents News 12 spoke with said they're concerned the project will alienate parkland and bring more traffic to the area.

"It's another destabilizing influence on a neighborhood," said one resident.

The controversial proposal caused major pushback from residents in the surrounding areas.

Some residents, who are in favor of the project, said the casino will give the borough a much needed boost.

"When I think of the income it will bring, and the jobs it will bring...I think it's a wonderful thing!" one resident said.

Jewett spelled out what the next six-to-eight months could look like for the proposal.

He said first Bally's has to wait for their Land Use Proposal to be approved.

The corporation then needs legislation to pass in order to purchase 15.7 acres of land on Bally's Links Golf Course at Ferry Point Park.

It specifically highlights the concrete area of the property where the parking lot and clubhouse currently stand. This is tentative pending Bally's is approved for a gaming license.

Finally, the approval of Bally's bid will require a major vote from the CAC, or Community Activist Council.

Major decisions will be made in early 2025.
